An Open Letter To Mr. President Obama:
Mr. President Obama:
I read your November ۴th statement with much disbelief and wonder. Most international circles, including the European Union, have witnessed the recent peaceful and sophisticated struggles against the oppressive Islamic Republic regime of Iran and have realized that the theocratic dictatorship is on her last leg. However, you are still wondering how you can bring them to the negotiation table.
I stand by my decision of voting for you last November, but I only see two choices when facing the democratic struggles of the Iranian people: You will either keep your good name in history by joining the rest of the world in support of the moral cause of Iranian masses, or your name will go down in history along with Tehran dictators. The choice is yours.
You have mentioned the seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran. While it is true that Khomeini and his cronies took several Americans hostage for ۴۴۴ days and left a dark page in the history of mankind thirty years ago, you must also publicize the millions of Iranians who have been taken hostage by the Islamic Republic for more than ۱۰,۰۰۰ days since the capture of the American Embassy.
You said you had condemned terrorist attacks against Iran. How ironic! Who is to condemn the massacre of thousands of untried political prisoners during ۱۹۸۱ to ۱۹۸۸ by the Islamic Republic? Who is to condemn the chain political assassinations, tortures, and rapes in Kahrizak Prison?
You said you have recognized Iran’s international right to peaceful nuclear power. Do you really assume that the Islamic government intends to use the nuclear power for peaceful purposes?
You spoke of the “international obligations” of the Iranian Government. Do these “obligations” include denying the Holocaust, terrorizing Argentina, hiding their second nuclear plant, or assassinating numerous political dissidents in Europe?
As you know, the Iranian Green Movement against the Islamic regime has received worldwide support. Some cities in Europe have named streets after “Neda”, and you shared your Nobel Peace Prize with her. Are you aware that as I put these words on paper, hundreds of Nedas and Sohrabs are being tortured in the dungeons of the Islamic regime?
I have no doubt that at least one of your advisors has read the reports by ۱۲۰ psychologists about the psychopathic diseases of the Iranian leaders.
Mr. President, please rest assured that Iranians will succeed in their struggle against the tyranny of their regime. They believe in a movement from inside. This movement will take its course and will succeed in due time. They no longer believe in a blind, hasty, and mindless rebellion. History has taught them valuable lessons. Their resilience will soon evolve into success. It is up to you how you line up yourself with the course of history.
Mr. President, authorities in international diplomacy have their consensus that only a smart embargo (oil embargo) would work in the case of Iran. But your government is still after sanctioning gasoline and other commodities that would only devastate the innocent people and would embolden the regime.
While your advisors were busy drafting your November ۴ statement, Iranians were busy trampling Ali Khamenei’s portraits in the streets and walking over them. They alarmed the world once again, and prolonging the Islamic Republic results in only more murders, more tortures, and more destruction in Iran.
It is your choice where to stand, Mr. President. I caution you to believe in tomorrow when Iranians will march on the streets and chant the anthem of freedom. Last year I wrote, “What would the world do with Bush and Cheney?” I hope I will never have to write, “What would the world do with Obama?”
Best Regards,
Reza Alavi
